You've been really busy lately dropping a string of mixtapes. Let's kick off with your mixtape series 'Wreckless In Texas'. The first volume was hosted by Chamillionaire who has blown up internationally. How did all this come about and why did you start the 'Wreckless In Texas' mixtape series?
I've been listening to Dirty South hip hop since 1989, and I've always wanted to promote that music over here. The UK is so influenced by New York and the mainstream I had to do something to promote that music over here, so besides doing collaborations with some of the Dirty South's finest I started the Wreckless In Texas mixtape series. I've got my girl Nancy out there in the South she does pr for a lot of the big mans out there and the rest is history, Nancy hooked up the whole Chamillionaire and Trae thing
'Wreckless In Texas 2' is hosted by Trae. For those don't know tell us more about Trae.
TRAE is a legend out there is Houston and is currently signed to RAP A LOT Records and is also the cousin of Z-RO and a member of the South's underground legendary crew A.B.N.
So after Part 2, I believe you will be releasing a special limited edition 2.5? Tell us more.
When I was doing volume 1 and 2 I got sent so many tracks, so I did volume 2.5 at the same time as volume 2 its only gonna be available to buy from www.wowlftownrecordings.com it's a double cd 50 tracks featuring the cream of the crop from the Texas scene and Wolftown.
Word on the street is that you've just come back from Texas. What was it like over there and was it what you expected?
It was everything I expected and more, we got so much love out there it was amazing, we witnessed that proper southern hospitality; we got recognised in clubs and stuff.
You are releasing 'Wreckless In Texas 2' chopped and screwed too. Tell us about that.
Yeah TRAE usually gets his albums chopped & screwed by DJ POLLIE POP so being that TRAE has hosted the mix I thought it would be good to get POLLIE POP to chop and screw the mix, I also wanted to do it to try and introduce chopped and screwed music out here in the UK
So do you have any other plans with 'Wreckless In Texas'?
Yeah besides the hosted mixtape series I'm also gonna drop the double-disc '2.5' and I am gonna release a DVD! We also got some T-shirts coming as well.
Okay, let's talk about 'The Englishman In New York' mixtape which has been released in the US…
That was a mixtape that New York clothing and record label owner MISTER MARLON put out in the States it was mixed by a very talented DJ who goes by the name CA$HI$ KAY from North Carolina. It's kinda like a best of LATE there is a lot of underground material on there that I've done, the mix came out really well. If you're in the States ya can buy it from www.myspace.com/2520 and if you're in the UK you can pick it up from www.wolftownrecordings.com
You released a Cd a few years back now called 'The Villainous One' which was really ahead of its time merging vibez of dirty south with UK hip-hop and even grime influences in the beats. Do you plan do any other album type mixtapes like this?
Right now I'm planning my album but I'm definitely gonna release another underground cd, I've got a lot of tracks already done. The VILLAINOUS ONE is definitely a cd that in a few year's people will be saying LATE done all this first.
You are affiliated with SPC and K-Rino. Tell us about that and the whole SPC UK as well as what releases we can be expecting to look out for.
Yeah myself, TRICKSTA & JAI-BOO are official members of SPC-UK we're doing our bit to promote the whole SOUTH PARK COALITION in the UK we got a mixtape coming with K-RINO and hopefully an SPC-UK album for more info you can check out www.myspace.com/spcukwolftown and www.southparkcoalition.com
As well as the Southern thing you've also done other mixes with your long-time business partner Tricksta including a mix for HHC. Was it with you two? Do you ever sleep? How do you get the time to do everything?!!
It's what we enjoy doing. We have both been DJ'ing since 1989, creating music, doing projects it's what we do.
So what releases can we expect this year from Wolftown Recordings?
There are too many to list you gonna have to keep logging onto the WOLFTOWN website and see what's coming we got a lot of cd's coming in 2007.
Thanks for taking the time out to do this. Is there anything you wanna add?
Just thanks to all the fans that have supported myself and WOLFTOWN over the years and keep watching this space and keep continuing to support the movement.
