sir_smurfFirst off let’s talk about your name. How did you get the name Sir Smurf Lil?
In regards as to where the name came from, apart from stating the obvious (The Smurfs) cartoon; it was given to me due to the fact of me constantly wearing a white woolly hat. I mean I literally wouldn’t take the hat off, kind of like the Asian kid in the movies (East Meets East) who would never take off his jacket that was me True-Story. But still I am a fan of the cartoon, for me the smurfs represents that grind, a family unit that moves as one.

You are one quarter of the crew The Colony. For those who don’t know tell us who the other three members are, as well as any affiliated members?
The other members from The Colony are for those who don’t already know: Conspicuous, Grimlok, and Willo-The-Wispa. Affiliated members are Reggie, Le-van kif, and Blu Cobane who is up next to bat for the team. But people like Shameless, T-Bear, Apollo, and Evil Ed will always be Colony extended family.

Your new album Myalpha has dropped. Tell us more about it and who it features?
Yea the Myalpha album dropped Oct 23rd 06, which Jehst and me are currently finishing up the tour for it which started back in Sept 06. The album features: Jehst, Micall parkinsun, and Diamara Neil, with additional vocal assistant from Diablo, and Wordsmith who I need to flag both a copy Holla.

Who produced the album?
Jehst handled the majority of the production work on Myalpha, with additional production from L.G (Sit-Tight Records) and Apa-Tight (Groundwurq ENT). Both producers hold production work on other smurf projects coming 2007.

How long did it take to record?
The album was written within the space of 3 months, to be honest me and Jehst never initially planed to do an album, but our work ethic connected in such a way it just happen to work out that way.

What is your favorite track on the album and why?

'Training Day' would have to be my favorite track, due to the fact that everyday is like training day in this Hip-Hop game, you can never learn enough, and there is always room for development.

What is your connection with Jehst and when did you meet up with him?
I first met Jehst through Lewis Parker back in 2000 whereby we recorded a track together over a Lewis Parker beat, after that I hadn’t seen Jehst since 2004 when he got at me about a month before I was about to graduated from uni, about wanting to record a track, ever since then we’ve been going hard at it True-Story.

What label are you signed to and who else is in the same?
The label that I rep for is YNR and Ottomanelfmusic which is The Colony’s label. When I am with The Colony its ottomanelfmusic, as solo act it’s YNR. As far as being signed I am the only one on the YNR island True-Story, but the YNR affiliated family is large, you just have to look on the website: www.ynr-production.co.uk to know that the movement is large. But YNR is currently working with an act, who goes by the name of: Jyager who is as Morpheus said to Neo (The One).

How would you describe the music that you make?

Hip-Hop that is ear pleasingly fresh, my style is like bringing horror to Walt Disney, or as Jehst once put it, “It is like Nas and Roald Dahl mugging Walt Disney in a Hackney back street”.

Any plans for any trips overseas to push your music further than just the U.K?
Yea we’ve got a few things in the pipeline in which I am unable to go into until solidified, but the last thing I did was in the U.S which was The Colony and New-York’s Stronghold Clique joint mix-tape called: 'Bootprints and Fistmarks (Hosted by Jehst and mixed by DJ MK).'

So who are you really feeling from the UK at the moment and who do you think is ‘the next to blow’ as they say?
I’m feeling the whole movement right now; I am just looking forward to seeing what the year James 007 has in store for us. Who’s next to blow is anyone’s guess, as long as it’s a REAL U.K Hip-Hop talent and not some CUP CAKE rapper I’m good.

What American rappers do you like and listen too?
The only thing that I am listening to right now is the Lupe Fiasco album and the Hi-Tek album, and from the UK the Kyza album. Apart from listening to Hip-Hop I’ve been listening to the James Morrison album and the Jamiroquai greatest hits album.

Selling units is actually becoming harder and harder for a lot of U.K crews I speak with. How do you view your market place?
It seems like year after year it becomes extremely difficult, especially when going up against the machine i.e.: (downloading) due to it’s none regulated function. But as said before the market is open, we trying to work through the loopholes, which is easier said then done where money is concerned but we trying.
